The DYAMOND Year

These Dyamond 3 or DYAMOND Year simulations are part of the 2025 WCRP Digital Earths km-scale hackathon. For details on the simulations and data access see the hackathon page, for more on the protocol that went into the creation of the datasets, see the data request page.

Working with the data

The data is accessible via the Hackathon Catalog. You can install a matching python environment using micromamba, or similar tools like pixi. Both tools are installed on the Levante supercomputer of DKRZ and can easily be installed on virtually any other system.

To install the environment with micromamba, run

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/digital-earths-global-hackathon/tools/refs/heads/main/python_envs/environment_2026.yaml
micromamba env create -f environment_2026.yaml
micromamba activate easy-2026

Note that for some legacy datasets, you might need environment_2025.yaml instead of environment_2026.yaml.

You can install a jupyterhub kernel for the environment by running

python -m ipykernel install --user --name easy-2026

after activating the environment.
